What are Vape Tanks?

A vape tank is a category of vape atomizers. Atomizers are used with a vape device also known as VW box mods. They are the part of your vape device that has a 2-5ml reservoir that holds e liquid and has a pre-installed coil. The coil that comes in the vape tanks are attached and held within the tank, they are used to wick the vape juice so when the mod is fired it heats up and produces vapor. Vapor tanks are typically constructed with glass or pyrex and metal like stainless steel. Almost all tanks use a bottom-coil design and have 510 connections, which is the standard connection for electronic cigarettes They also feature an airflow system that allows control over the airflow to your coils. Having control over air intake allows vapers to tailor the type of vape experience they want. They can keep the airflow mostly closed for a tight draw or keep it open for a loose airy draw to produce more vapor.

Tanks are a great atomizer for beginners, but it is important to be familiar with the components, how to use them, and the different types of tanks. You often will need to search for a compatible vape mod to pair with your tank. There are two main types: a standard tank and a sub ohm tank.

Standard Tanks

Standard tanks have a coil resistance higher than 1.0ohm. These tanks are the most common options for vape beginners because they are easy to use and require less maintenance. Standard tanks are typically smaller in size and produce less clouds compared to sub ohm tanks. On a positive note, standard tanks require less e-liquid because they go through it a lot slower. E-liquids last longer in these tanks because they have ohms higher than 1.0 which doesn’t require a lot of power. Examples of standard tanks are MTL (mouth-to-lung) tanks. These tanks are set up for a cigarette-like experiences and are enjoyed by vapers for their concentrated flavor and restrictive airflow. Check out the Innokin Zenith D22 or the Aspire Nautilus tank for an MTL vaping experience.

For vapers who are just getting started and are looking for cheap vape tanks then we highly recommend a standard tank because they are budget friendly, low maintenance, and easy to use.

Sub Ohm Tanks

A sub ohm tank is similar to a standard tank, the difference is they have a lower ohm coil resistance. The term "sub ohm" translates to less than one ohm. In short, sub ohm tanks are atomizers having resistance levels of 0.1 – 1 ohm. A lower resistance level leads to increased vapor production which is in line with the needs and interests of today's vapers. They also provide better flavor and can cope with high VG liquids.

Sub ohm tanks are typically larger than standard tanks and their coils have large wicking ports. They have large wicking ports so the e-juice supply can keep up with the speed it is being vaporized at. The only possible downside to these tanks is that they require high power mods to run safely and efficiently. Vape tanks are seen as being more premium and are preferred over standard tanks because they produce more vapor and provide excellent flavor.

Advantages of Tanks over Rebuildable Atomizers

Rebuildable atomizers, also known as RBA's, are atomizers with an advanced vape deck that requires coils and wicks (cotton). These atomizers require vapers to build their own coils, wick it, and manually drip e-juice on the wick. They have a juice well at the bottom of the build deck to hold e-liquid, but the juice well is a lot smaller than the ones on tanks. RBA's require the user to continuously add e-liquid to prevent the cotton from getting dry.

Sub ohm tanks differ from rebuildable atomizers because they use pre-installed coils. This means that vapers who purchase sub ohm tanks do not need to create coil builds as opposed to other atomizers (RDA/RTA). While this offers less customization, many vapers prefer tanks because of the convenience they offer with the pre-installed ohm coils. Tanks have bigger a juice well and do not require to be continuously filled, which is another great advantage.

Tank devices are preferred by vapers who like convenience. No intricate building is required, they have large juice wells, are easy to use, and have adjustable airflow. Sub ohm tanks have an even more advantage compared to standard takes. That is because they work at higher wattages which provides great flavor and vapor similar to rebuildable atomizers.

How to Use a Vape Tank

Vape tanks are extremely easy to use. They are all typically used in the same way, but they are all not built the same. Read the manual before disassembling the tank because they have different ways to be disassembled and filled.

The first thing to do after purchasing a tank is cleaning it. Disassemble the tank and soak everything except the coil in soapy water. Let it soak for at least 10 minutes then wash it and allow it to completely dry. After the tank is clean and dry then assemble it back together. Install the coil tightly and fill up the tank with e-juice, most tanks have a top fill feature that allow users to drip easily. Let the coil prime for at least 10 minutes. Priming the coil will allow the wick to soak up the e-juice. Skipping this step can lead to a dry hit and the coil being burnt. If you experience a burnt coil, it's probably a sign that it wasn't primed.

After the coil is primed, then begin vaping! Remember to regularly clean your tank to avoid any gunk build-up, especially the drip tip. Disinfect and clean your drip tip daily.

Finding the Best Vape Tank

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to vaping so we cannot tell you what the best sub ohm tank. This is because others may have a different opinion. There are many reputable brands that create fantastic tanks, but one of the best in the market is SmokTech.

Smok is one of the most popular vaping brands that specializes in sub ohm tanks. The TFV8 Smok tank was one of Smok’s earlier cloud beast models and is still being used by thousands of vapers in 2019! It was the first of its kind to use a unique patented Smok turbo engine coil structure which makes it a powerful, cloud chasing tank. Since then, they have released different versions of the Smok TFV8 like the baby beast series and bigger cloud beast models which include the new Smok tank called the TFV12. The Smok TFV12 Cloud Beast King Tank is similar to the TFV8 series, but the replacement coil series is different. It features a powerful twelve coil cylinder, one style of these coils can fire up to 350W. Smok also offers vape starter kits that includes a Smok series mod and a mini Smok vape tank, vape batteries and battery chargers not included.

We highly recommend any of the Smok tanks because they are known for their powerful sub ohm tanks. They are not extremely cheap, but purchasing a Smok kit is a great investment.

Smok is definitely not the only big brand with great atomizers. Other great sub-ohm tanks include the Uwell Crown Series, Horizon Tech's Falcon King Mesh Tank, Aspire Cleito Series, and so much more. Other brands we recommend are: Voopoo, Vaporesso, Freemax, Vandy Vape, and so much more that can be found in our store!
