Battery Safety is Key

When you’re new or somewhat new to vaping, the huge number of terms, technicalities, and nuances of the hobby can swirl around in your head endlessly. The steep learning curve doesn’t really allow you much time to process all of the information, and you can’t really learn what’s absolutely important. Without a doubt, however, knowledge about battery safety is the most essential part of vaping that you can learn.

Batteries may seem pretty safe and sturdy, just sitting in the back of your e-cigarette. However, an e-cig battery is just like any other battery out there. Accidents can happen, and batteries can even explode in extreme circumstances (according to sources, this occurs less than 1 in 10 million times). Especially as vapers move from disposable, transient e-cigarettes to more permanent, traditional e-cigarettes, many underestimate just how important vaping battery safety truly is.

Battery overheating is one of the most common problems that newbie vapers will run into. The battery will become hot to the touch, and the life will drain from the battery far faster than it should. This shows a lack of experience in battery safety. To counteract this problem somewhat, almost every e-cigarette on the market today has an easy to use battery switch. Most sport a five click option, in which you press the button five times to turn the battery on and off. This allows the battery to cool off between hits, increasing battery life dramatically.

The most common cause of battery problems with traditional e-cigarettes is using the wrong charger to charge the battery.
Chargers range drastically in how much power they deliver to the battery at once, how fast they do it, and in safety mechanisms to keep the battery from overcharging. By not using the manufacturer’s own recommendation, you run the risk of your battery facing every problem under the sun.

Speaking of sun, another key tip to battery safety is to avoid direct sunlight. The heat caused by direct sunlight can cause some battery casings to melt or deform, leading to leakage and even possible explosion. The same goes for heat not caused by sun, and for extreme cold. Hazardous weather is just generally bad for e-cigarette batteries.

You can easily and regularly inspect your e-cigarette’s battery before each vaping session to ensure that it’s safe to use. Make sure there is no clear leakage of material, and that the casing itself isn’t deformed. Take note if you start to experience a significant decline in battery life, and troubleshoot the problem. Never be afraid to buy a new battery either - the dangers of a faulty battery aren’t worth the price you pay if something goes wrong. Just remember that battery safety is one of the most important things to keep in mind in your vaping career.
