At first glance, Ohms Law may just seem like a fancy set of physics and math formulas that you probably learned in high school for one test and then completely forgot about. However, it may surprise you that Ohms Law is actually critical in the vaping world. It governs everything from the maximum heat of the coils to the power output of your device. If you stop and think about your device for a moment, you might start thinking about the wattage and voltage contained in your device. That high of an electrical current is absolutely dangerous, and thats in a device that is either in your hands, pocket, or right up next to your face. Ohms Law is used as a tool by designers to ensure that your devices stay completely safe during usage. So how exactly does Ohms Law work, and how does it affect you?
Ohms Law defines the relationships between voltage, current, resistance, and power. The basic formula for this law is: I=V/R, where V is voltage, I is current, and R is resistance. Voltage is the difference in electrical potential between two points; current is the amount of electricity flowing through a wire or other surface; and resistance can be thought of as resistance for the flowing electricity. You may be familiar with resistance as it is measured in Ohms, and you may also recognize the measurement for current, which is Amperes or Amps. This equation can also be extended to include power, which is usually measured in watts. In this case, Ohms Law can be extended to a set of equations, where power can be ascertained from any of the other variables. P=VI, P=V^2/R, and P=I^2*R are the three equations that can be used.
If you follow sub-ohm vaping at all, you may be able to see why these equations are important. If you know just two variables - say, resistance and power - then you will be able to determine what to set the third variable to in order to achieve the correct balance. By using these equations, you can easily set up the proper resistance, wattage, or voltage to correctly prime your next vaping session.
Furthermore, using these equations allows you to carry out proper MOD and battery safety. Since you know how to work amps into these equations, you can see what the minimum resistance you can possibly use is. Knowing that will help you keep your battery from straining too hard. Batteries thatre constantly strained tend to overheat, lowering battery life and potentially even causing leakages and explosions in worst case scenarios.
With Ohms Law and its related equations, you can be more informed on how to properly set up coil resistance, voltage, and wattage. Using the law is more than just a fancy trick - its practical.
